What Sets Us Apart

Our team

We have a friendly, caring team with over 50 years combined experience in orthodontics. Whether it be coordinating your schedule with ours, navigating the maze of insurance, or receiving the most technologically up-to-date orthodontic treatment, there is someone here for you with a caring touch!

Attention to detail in orthodontic treatment

Dr. Smith sees every patient at every appointment. He places each brace and makes all the necessary adjustments to patient’s orthodontic appliances. Dr. Smith believes close monitoring of each patient’s care is essential for exceptional orthodontic treatment.

The latest clinical treatment and procedures, including:

  • Digital X-rays: instantly provide excellent images of our patients with less radiation than conventional film x-rays.
  • Damon System Braces: make treatment easier and more comfortable, and offers our patients shorter treatment (up to 50% shorter), fewer office visits, less conspicuous braces, gentle tooth movement, no extractions, no palatal expanders, no surgery (in most cases), and no headgear.
  • Invisalign®: is the invisible way to straighten teeth without braces. Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten teeth, without metal or wires.
  • Temporary anchorage devices (TADs): are temporary implants used during orthodontic treatments that allow Dr. Smith to move teeth more predictably. This means a better esthetic and functional result for our patients. Sometimes this means avoiding jaw surgery!
  • Soft tissue laser: Our soft tissue laser allows us to recontour the gum tissue for our patients, if necessary; to give them the smile they deserve. In some circumstances, the soft tissue laser can be used to uncover a tooth that is slow to come in, ensuring your orthodontic treatment proceeds in a timely manner.
  • Teeth whitening: The BriteSmile process helps restore your teeth to their optimum natural whiteness in just about an hour.

Our reception area

Our reception area includes a children's play area for the youngsters that accompany their parents or older brothers and sisters to their appointments. It also has a courtesy phone, up-to-date reading material, and comfortable seating with gentle commercial-free music. Our reception area is a refuge from the hectic pace of day-to-day life.

Individual treatment rooms

Our clinic offers individual treatment rooms for patient comfort and privacy, and we have seating for parents who wish to accompany their children back to the clinic. We take all of the diagnostic records in our office (no outside laboratories with associated extra costs).

Using the most up-to-date procedures available:

We follow guidelines established by the American Dental Association and the Centers for Disease Control to assure that all of our sterilization methods are current. We also attend annual continuing education courses to assure that we always provide state-of-the-art orthodontic care.

Emphasis on good brushing and flossing before, during, and after orthodontic treatment

Did you know that bacteria found in your mouth have been implicated in heart disease? Dr. Smith feels strongly that it is important to develop excellent brushing and flossing habits at a young age. As such, he and his team review each patient's oral hygiene at every appointment. Dr. Smith's idea of an excellent orthodontic result includes straight teeth, a sound functional bite, and healthy teeth and gums. He feels that with today's resources and good oral hygiene, every person will keep their own teeth their entire life.

Incentive programs

We offer incentive programs for our young patients to help encourage the fullest possible cooperation with the treatment plan. No matter how well conceived the plan of treatment, there is no substitute for enthusiastic patient participation.

Orthodontic Specialization

Dr. Smith is a certified orthodontist (specialist) with a Master’s Degree in Oral Biology and over 20 years of clinical experience. While some pediatric dentists and general dentists offer some kind of orthodontic treatment, Dr. Smith is a certified specialist who offers a variety of orthodontic treatments exclusively. Orthodontic certification requires all the training general dentists need, plus several years of post-graduate training in orthodontics. Dr. Smith focuses solely on orthodontics, so that he can provide you with the most effective and long-lasting treatment results.

Online Services

Our computer software system integrates our scheduling, charting, and financial systems. Once you become a patient, our system allows those you give permission to access their digital treatment records (digital photographs and X-rays), view scheduled appointments and account information, and print-out receipts for flex-plans. Our computer software also provides appointment confirmation by phone, e-mail and text message.
