The Damon System is not just another brace; it's a whole new way of treating patients. Conventional treatment often requires removal of healthy teeth and/or the use of palatal expanders to make space. This approach is often uncomfortable, takes longer, and can leave a narrower arch and a flat profile. Damon smiles are full, natural 10-tooth smiles achieved with light biologically-sensible forces, and are specifically designed to improve the overall facial result of each patient.

At Tollgate Orthodontics, Dr. Smith combines three key components of the Damon System, which when used together, deliver faster treatment, require fewer appointments and provide greater comfort and consistently high-quality results:
- Damon passive self-ligating braces eliminate the need for elastic or metal "ties." With Damon tie-less braces you can experience treatment without tightening.
- Light, high-technology, shape-memory wires move teeth faster, more comfortably and require fewer adjustments.
- A new clinically proven treatment approach that aligns your teeth and enhances your facial aesthetics - usually without extractions, palatal expanders or headgear.
Conventional braces on the left are tied in with elastics, which cause friction and pressure, making treatment slower and less comfortable. Damon braces use a slide mechanism to hold the wire, which allows teeth to move more freely, quickly and comfortably.
Damon braces are designed to be discreet, comfortable and easy to keep clean. Without the elastic ties which attract and collect plaque, Damon braces make dental hygiene easy during treatment.

Damon System FAQ
Are all braces the same?
The Damon System is based on a unique treatment philosophy that goes beyond straight teeth; with the Damon System, we create beautiful smiles, and many people see a noticeable change not just in their teeth, but in their entire face. A number of factors are taken into account when first diagnosing your smile. Your face, profile and other factors are considered in order to predict what you will look like into your 40s, 50s and beyond. The Damon System is designed to deliver results for a lifetime.
How long does treatment take?
Treatment time with the Damon System is typically much faster than with conventional braces. In fact, in some cases treatment is up to 50% faster!
Since the Damon System works so quickly, does that mean it is harsh or unsafe?

No. In fact, most people experience very little discomfort with the Damon System. The low-friction nature of the system assures improved tooth position and improved facial harmony, while very little pressure is actually applied to your teeth. High-tech (low force) "shape memory" titanium wires are used that gently guide your teeth to their ideal position. What makes the Damon System work so quickly is that it uses far gentler (extremely light), more biologically sensible forces than conventional braces; heavier forces commonly associated with conventional braces actually disrupt the blood supply to the teeth, thus interfering with the remodeling of bone and the rate of tooth movement.
Will my teeth hurt after adjustments?
Very light "shape memory" titanium wires are used that gently guide your teeth to their ideal position. Most patients experience very little discomfort with the Damon System.

Aren't braces big and bulky?
Not anymore! Braces are much smaller and more discreet than they were just a few years ago.
