Invisalign FAQ

At Tollgate Orthodontics we are committed to providing patients of all ages with high quality, personalized and outstanding orthodontic treatment. Dr. Eves, a board certified expert in aligning teeth, and an Invisalign Preferred Provider, creates a treatment plan tailored specifically to you. You will even receive a movie which shows how your treatment will progress. See the sample video below for a glimpse at what you would receive as a patient of Tollgate Orthodontics. This video simulates the movement your teeth will make as you progress through the series of clear aligners on your way to a brand new smile. If you decide that Invisalign is not for you, we also specialize in DamonSmile Braces, which are available in virtually invisible Damon Clear and Damon mini metal versions.

Below we’ve provided some answers to the most commonly asked questions about Invisalign treatment.

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten teeth, without metal or wires. The trays look similar to teeth whitening trays, made of clear thermoplastic material. They are custom made to fit your teeth and follow a treatment plan developed just for you by Dr. Eves.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign uses 3-D computer imaging technology to create a complete treatment plan from the initial position to the final desired (treatment) position. From the 3-D image, a series of custom-made, clear aligners are produced. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks and slowly moves the teeth and is then replaced by the next aligner in the series until the final position is achieved.

How does Invisalign effectively move teeth?

Invisalign aligners move teeth through the appropriate placement of controlled force on the teeth. Invisalign not only controls these forces, but also controls the timing of the force application. At each aligner stage (generally every two weeks), only certain teeth are allowed to move, and these movements are determined by the orthodontic treatment plan for that particular stage. This results in an efficient force delivery system.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

  • Invisalign is virtually invisible, so you can straighten your teeth without anyone knowing.
  • Invisalign aligners are removable so, unlike traditional braces, you can eat and drink what you want during treatment. You can also brush and floss normally which allows you to maintain good oral hygiene.
  • Invisalign is comfortable. There are no metal brackets or wires to cause mouth irritation. With no metal or wires, your periodic check and adjustment appointments are short and uncomplicated.

Who is a candidate for Invisalign?

Invisalign can create beautiful smiles for teens and adults. Tollgate Orthodontics even has an 83 year old patient using Invisalign! It is never too late to get the beautiful smile you deserve. To check if Invisalign is right for you, we invite you to schedule a complimentary evaluation with our office. Please call us at 401-739-3900 to find an appointment time that is convenient for you. At that appointment, Dr. Eves will review with you his recommendations for treatment.

Do doctors need special training in order to use Invisalign?

Yes, specific training is needed. All orthodontists treating patients with Invisalign must be “Invisalign certified.” Remember that only an orthodontist has the additional dental education required to call themselves a specialist in aligning and straightening teeth. Not all Invisalign providers are orthodontists.
